It just has to do with a love of the characters, literature and being pissed off at the writers and therefore inventing different scenarios that fullfill the fandoms desire for their favourite characters to get the spotlight.

People only think sexuality has something to do with because of how western culture, mostly American culture really, has brought them up. 

A fair portion of Americans believe that me, as a straight male, should want to ridicule and beat the crap out of any gay man who so much as looks at me, because, “Hey, you’re looking at me. You must want to “turn me gay” or “want me” or whatever the reason.” And it’s all just really stupid. A person is a person. If a girl I wasn’t interested in showed an interest in me I wouldn’t beat her up. Why should a guy who shows the same interest be any different?
